Welcome

We are located in beautiful, Southern Alberta, Canada. All of our dogs are well socialized; obedience trained, and compete in conformation events, but are first and foremost, family pets.

We strongly believe in genetically screening all of our breeding dogs, in attempts to lessen the possibility of passing on inherited health problems. No dog at Fortress will be bred unless they are proven to be of a sound mind/temperament, are a wonderful representation of the breed standard, and have completed all appropriate health testing.

Each one of our dogs have brought us many learning experiences, heart aches, joy and everything in between. Not a second would be traded, of either the good, or the bad. They have brought us to where we are and pointed us towards where we want to be.

The Foundation of Fortress Mastiffs

A Mastiff should be able to live well; not just look impressive.

Longevity

While 8-10 years is common for Mastiffs; Fortress dogs often reach 10+. Structural soundness is important to us as we want our dogs to remain as mobile and comfortable as possible during their senior years.

Health

No dog at Fortress is bred without completing (and passing) all health tests that are required for Mastiffs. We believe that this is the most important step in producing happy, well-balanced dogs that are able to remain active into their senior years.

Temperament

Much like health, temperament is an extremely important part of our breeding program. Mastiffs are big, powerful dogs, and they should be calm, confident and non-reactive. We pride ourselves on producing dogs that are stable with other animals and new environments.

We take the breed standard seriously and try our best to breed as closely to it as possible. We believe that to truly improve, we must be able to acknowledge any faults our dogs may have and know what needs to be done to improve those things. We truly feel that this is the best way to preserve and protect this ancient breed.
